08 December 2017

Similar to previous years, the local education system and the national exams such as the baccalaureate or the national evaluation have determined a high interest in Google searches in Romania in 2017. However, the Black Friday sales campaign and the new gadgets were also among the most popular searches this year.

The local baccalaureate exam, Black Friday, the new iPhone 8 and local artists who died this year were among the hottest topics in Romania in 2017, according to Google’s ranking of the most popular searches made by Romanians this year.

“Baccalaureate results” topped the ranking of the most popular searches made by Romanians on Google, followed by “national evaluation results,” “Stats Royale,” “eMag Black Friday,” “the word picnic,” and “Stela Popescu” – one of Romania’s most popular actresses who died in November. The top ten is completed by “Orthodox calendar,” “Ileana Ciuculete,” “iPhone 8,” and “Denisa Manelista.”

The baccalaureate also tops the ranking of the most searched events this year, followed by the national evaluation exam, the Black Friday sales campaign, high school admission, tennis tournaments Wimbledon and Roland Garros, the teachers’ contest, Eurovision, Romania-Denmark match, and hurricane Irma.

The most searched movies in Romania were Fifty Shades Darker, Fast and Furious 8, and Dunkirk. Other films such as Beauty and the Beast, Baywatch and La La Land were also in top ten.

In the “How to…?” category, the most popular searches included “How to make slime,” “How to make tomato juice,” “How to calculate the score for high school admission,” “How to put the flower on Facebook,” and “How to calculate the pension.”

Searches for 2017 are split into several categories, seeking to capture search trends in Romania in the year just ending. The lists were created using a combination of services and tools that give a detailed picture of global and regional search trends. Most data come from Google Trends.
