German firm may build armored personnel carrier in Romania

18 November 2016

The Romanian authorities are close to signing a contract with Rheinmetall, a German company that builds military equipment and vehicles, for building an armored personnel carrier in Romania, Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos announced yesterday.

The company will use resources from Romania, will create jobs in the country, and will use its own technology, as well as the one that was used in Romania, said Ciolos.

“A part of the money will remain in Romania and will create jobs and even a production capacity,” the Prime Minister said at local Europa FM. The contract hasn’t yet been concluded, but is in a very advanced phase.

“Actually, there will be a partnership created, a mixed Romanian-German company with Rheinmetall, which will have the contract with the Defense Minister for this armored personnel carrier,” Ciolos said.

He explained that the Defense Ministry is looking for this kind of partnerships, and the authorities will probably also conclude a contract for equipping the Marine.
