General Electric gets major order in Romania

26 June 2017

US group General Electric (GE) won a major equipment supply contract for the new 430 megawatt plant in Iernut, Romania.

This is the the first major order since 2015, when GE took over the energy operations of the French industrial group Alstom for USD 10.6 billion, Reuters reported.

GE will provide all the core technology for the EUR 268 million plant that will be built by Duro Felguera and Romelectro for Romgaz.

GE representatives said on Friday for Reuters that the plant would generate enough energy to feed one million households in Romania, being the largest natural gas project in Southeast Europe over the past five years.

General Electric will supply the plant with four 6F gas turbines, two steam turbines and four heat-recovery steam generators. The construction will start this year and would be completed in 2019, replacing the current Iernut thermal power plant.

National gas producer Romgaz has signed a contract worth EUR 268 million, excluding VAT, with Duro Felguera and Romelectro, for the construction of a new power plant within the Iernut thermal plant.
