Number of foreign tourists in Romanian hotels, up 10% in January
Some 149,000 foreign tourists checked into hotels and guesthouses in Romania in January, up by 10% compared to the same month of last year.
The number of overnight stays by foreign tourists also went up by 11.9%, to almost 300,000, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).
Most foreign tourists who stayed in local hotels in January came from Israel (17,741), Italy (16,909), and Germany (14,619). The number of French tourists was 9,400 while over 9,100 came from the Republic of Moldova.
Only 7% of the foreign tourists went to mountain resorts and 2.2% went to spa resorts. Meanwhile, almost 80% went to Bucharest and other big cities.
The number of Romanian tourists in local hotels went up by 9.5% in January, to 573,000. Thus, the overall number of tourists welcomed by local hotels and guesthouses reached 722,000, up 9.6% year-on-year.
