Ford starts voluntary leave program, to lay off 680 in Romania

Car maker Ford will lay off 680 of its 3,200 employees at the Craiova plant in Romania, and has launched a voluntary leave program. If nobody will sign up for this program, it will start layoffs, according to Ana-Maria Timiş, Ford Romania spokesperson, quoted by Mediafax. The decision was triggered by the still low demand on the market, despite the B-Max model made in Romania being among the best sold models on its segment. The car plant in Craiova interrupted production for a significant number of days this year, both in the assembly, and in the engine production departments. “To ensure competitiveness and adjust production volumes to the market demand, additional measures are needed.
