Fugitive Romanian businessman Florian Walter held in Colombia

Policemen found and detained fugitive Romanian businessman Florian Walter in Colombia. He fled the country in May, just before local anticorruption prosecutors started an investigation on him and his firms for tax evasion.

Local Prahova County admitted last week Florian Walter’s extradition. The businessman will be brought back in the country and placed under preventive arrest, reports local Digi24.

Romanian authorities investigate Walter in a case of tax evasion that damaged the state budget by EUR 4.5 million. He set up a criminal group of 23 people, which carried out tax evasion and money laundering activities between 2012 and 2014.

Florian Walter owns Romprest, a company that provides sanitation services in Bucharest’s District 1. He was also the main shareholder of FC Petrolul Ploiesti and Universitatea Cluj football clubs. Before that, he was one of the shareholders of Dinamo football club.
