Festival in Romania: Electric Castle participants can contribute to Banffy Castle’s restoration

14 July 2017

The beautiful and old Banffy Castle in the village of Bontida, in Cluj county, is hosting one of the largest music festivals in Romania these days – Electric Castle (July 12-16).

The event is gathering a very large crowd of music fans every year, and this year the participants can also contribute to the restoration of the castle, which is in a very bad shape.

Thus, those who want to help restore the building can buy, symbolically, a bucket of mortar or a brick for the restoration works, reports local Digi24. The funds raised with the public’s help will be used to restore the castle's foundation.

Electric Castle Festival is also supporting the restoration process by donating an amount of the money earned from the ticket sales.

Formerly known as the Transylvanian Versailles, the Banffy Castle is the largest castle ensemble in Transylvania. However, in 2000, the site was included on the 100 Most Endangered Monuments List published by the World Monuments Watch. The Transylvania Trust foundation is responsible for its restoration and revitalization.
