Romanian Digi buys Hungarian telecom operator

Romanian telecom operator Digi Communications will buy Invitel Tavkozlesi, one of the key operators on Hungary's telecom market, with EUR 140 million.

The transaction will be carried out through Digi’s Hungarian subsidiary. The two parts signed the contract on Friday.

Invitel Tavkozlesi is part of the Hungarian group Invitel, and its main customers are residential clients, as well as small companies. Last year, the company had a turnover of about EUR 85 million and a profit of EUR 23.2 million.

The deal is expected to be completed in mid-March 2018. Romanian investor Zoltan Teszari controls Digi Communications, which owns the largest cable TV and fixed internet network in Romania, RCS&RDS.

Digi Communications had total revenues of EUR 843 million and a net profit of EUR 12.5 million in 2016. The group’s revenues in Hungary amounted to EUR 137 million last year.

Digi Communications is listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange and has a market value of almost EUR 900 million.
