Romania’s daily coronavirus case count hits new high

Romania added 1,454 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, a new daily record since the start of the pandemic. The total number of cases reached 66,631 on Thursday, August 13, the authorities announced in the daily report released at 13:00.

It is the second day in a row that Romania reports more than 1,400 daily coronavirus cases.

Separately, 571 patients who were retested still had the Covid-19 infection.

Of the total cases, 31,547 patients have recovered, while 7,253 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis.

The number of daily coronavirus deaths also reached a new high in the past 24 hours as 53 coronavirus patients died, pushing the death toll to 2,860 since the start of the pandemic.

Of those who passed away in the past 24 hours, one was aged between 30 and 39, one was aged between 40 and 49, three were aged between 50 and 59, 13 were aged between 60 and 69, 24 were aged between 70 and 79, and 11 were older than 80. Forty-nine of them had previous medical conditions.

In total, 7,437 coronavirus patients were admitted to hospitals in the country, 478 of them to intensive care units.

At a national level, 1,450,269 tests were carried out by August 13, 22,649 in the past 24 hours, of which 8,650 on request.

Furthermore, 7,935 people who tested positive for the coronavirus infection were isolating at home, while 5,421 people were under institutionalized isolation. At the same time, 20,775 people were under quarantine at home, and 101 under institutionalized quarantine.
