Romanian Parliament presidents to travel to Kyiv

14 April 2022

Marcel Ciolacu, the president of the Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies, and Florin Cîțu, the president of the Senate, will travel to Kyiv, the two announced.

The visit follows an invitation from Ruslan Stefanchuk, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, the unicameral parliament of Ukraine.

Both officials will visit areas impacted by the war and have talks on how Romania can get involved in Ukraine’s reconstruction, they said.

Talks are underway for a potential speech delivered by Ciolacu to the Rada during his visit on April 27, Agerpres reported, quoting sources with the Chamber of Deputies.

Several European leaders travelled to Kyiv recently, among them European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, UK PM Boris Johnson, and Poland’s president Andrzej Duda.

More recently, on April 13, the presidents of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland visited Kyiv.

Other Romanian politicians who travelled to Ukraine’s capital are Save Romania Union (USR) deputies Filip Havârneanu and Diana Stoica and MEP Vlad Gheorghe, who was in the country alongside MEPs and MPs of EU member states.
