Romanian environment minister wants “cash for clunkers” program for appliances

06 June 2018

Romanian environment minister Gratiela Gavrilescu proposes a “cash for clunkers” program for electrical appliances. She says that people want to get rid of their old appliances but have no idea where to take them and such a project is needed.

The minister said she already talked to the largest appliance producers and importers in Romania about launching such a program, local News.ro reported. However, she didn’t go into details about how such a program would work.

The Environment Ministry has been running a “Cash for Clunkers” program that encourages Romanians to scrap their old cars and buy new ones that pollute less. The program has supported the local car sales after the 2008 crisis.
