More than 35,100 individuals in Romania had deposits in banks of over EUR 100,000 at the end of last year, with a total value of RON 36.8 billion (about EUR 8 billion), according to the latest statistics of the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund (FGDB) for 2018, local Ziarul Financiar reported.
Compared to 2017, the number of individuals with more than EUR 100,000 in bank deposits increased by 6,104 in 2018. Meanwhile, the total value of the savings increased by RON 6.4 billion.
By comparison, in 2010 only 12,665 Romanians had deposits in banks of over EUR 100,000, with a cumulated value of RON 16.5 billion.
The number of depositors is determined by summing the consolidated data reported by each bank, so that a person who has deposits with several credit institutions can be taken into account several times.
