Romanian energy authority ANRE approves mechanism to reward voluntary consumption reduction

Households and companies in Romania could be financially rewarded if they agree to consume less electricity during certain periods, according to a new regulation approved by Romania’s energy authority ANRE, highlighted by Euronews Romania.

Following the change, during periods when the energy system is under pressure, energy grid operator Transelectrica will be able to establish how much consumption needs to be reduced and will organize an auction. Companies, suppliers, or other eligible participants will be able to say by how much they are willing to reduce their consumption and for what amount.
