Where in Romania are the most internet-connected households?

Approximately 65% of the households in Romania own a computer, and most of them are located in urban areas, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS). In the Bucharest-Ilfov area, over 82% of households have a computer at home. At the opposite end, in the area of Moldova, little over 50% of the households own a computer, according to the INS data. In 2017, of the total population aged 16 to 74, 72.5% used the computer at least once. The percentage of men using computers is slightly higher than that of women, at 73.8% vs. 71.3%. Most people (91.5%) aged 16 to 34 used the computer, while less than half (44.8%) of the people aged 55 to 74 used the computer. Of the frequent users, 73.3% go online daily or almost daily. A total of 93.5% of those aged 16 to 34 go online. The percentage drops at higher age categories, to 44% of those aged 55 to 74. In 2017, more than two thirds of Romanian households (68.6%) had access to a home internet network. Compared to 2016, the number of households with internet access increased by 3.6 percentage points. This year, the region of Bucharest-Ilfov had the most households with internet access from home, namely over four in five. It was followed by the West and North-West region. The lowest percentages of households with internet access were found in the South-Muntenia region (63.3%) and in the North-East region (61.3%). Fixed broadband connections are the most commonly used to access the internet from home, at 87.5%. These are followed by mobile broadband connections (48%) and narrow-band connections (9.4%).
