Romania’s gross external debt increased by EUR 8.6 billion in the first four months of the year to EUR 153.1 bln at the end of April. This was mainly because of the state’s heavy borrowing in January-February when more Eurobonds were issued.
The state’s external debt increased by some EUR 10 bln YTD to EUR 67.3 bln at the end of April.
The second-largest segment of Romania’s gross external debt is formed by the intra-group loans contracted by local FDI companies: EUR 44 bln at the end of April, slightly less compared to the end of 2022.
The private (non-bank) sector owes EUR 27.3 bln to foreign lenders at the end of April – only slightly more compared to the end of 2022.
