PayU expects e-commerce in Romania to reach EUR 4.5 bln in 2019

Electronic payment processor PayU estimates that the Romanian e-commerce market will exceed EUR 4.5 billion this year.

"Romanian retailers must be aware of the new trends, with cross-border online trade being the most important one. From our experience, this is how they can increase their sales by 50%, and emerging markets with the world’s highest growth rates are certainly a destination to take into account,” said Marius Costin, country manager PayU Romania, local Economica.net reported.

The e-commerce market measured EUR 3.5 billion in 2018, according to GPeC statistics and estimates, marking a 30% year-on-year growth. Compared to this base, PayU’s forecast for 2019 implies that the growth rate would not ease significantly from the 30% annual growth in 2018.
