Romanian football manager Mircea Lucescu’s grandson invests EUR 5 mln in new beer factory

Young Romanian entrepreneur Matei Lucescu, the son of Romanian football manager Razvan Lucescu and the grandson of more famous Mircea Lucescu, has revived one of the best-known beer brands in Romania and now plans to invest EUR 5 mln in a new beer factory.

Matei Lucescu relaunched the Grivita beer brand in June 2019, after investing EUR 1 million in a craft beer factory in Bucharest. In less than a year, he has managed to sign contracts with two large retailers, Auchan and Mega Image. Lucescu’s goal for 2021 is to have his beer sold throughout the country and the next step would be to start exports.

His company will also start the construction of a new factory, a EUR 5 million investment financed with EU funds.

"The new factory will increase production capacity, but Grivita will always remain a craft beer brand," Matei Lucescu told Ziarul Financiar.
