Romanian steelmaker Liberty Galati invests EUR 30mn to expand high-value added portfolio

Liberty Galati, Romania's largest steelmaker and part of the Liberty Group, announced that it was investing RON 150mn (EUR 30mn) in a cooling plant for the thick sheet rolling mill.

Following the investment, the accelerated cooling plant will allow the company to strengthen its presence in the most profitable market segments, increase productivity and expand its portfolio of value-added products, the company says. It will also improve the quality of finished products for its customers in the fields of offshore, construction, shipbuilding and pressure vessels.

"In modern sheet rolling mills, as we have here in Galati, the accelerated cooling system is essential to have more durable products that require precision and high cooling speed. The project will be completed next year and will enable us to meet our customers' demand for value-added and high-quality products," said Sandip Biswas, Liberty Primary Steel & Mining CEO.

Recently, Liberty Galati announced the completion of a state-of-the-art production line at its specialized company Liberty Tubular Products Galati, following an investment of over RON 40mn (EUR 8mn).
