Romanian consumers of tobacco heating products such as glo state they perceive significant physical and lifestyle improvements after switching from smoking to tobacco heating products. The latest IRES study concluded in the first half of 2022 highlights key findings in Romanian consumers` perceptions: according to the respondents, THP products have less negative impact on their physical condition, leave less unpleasant smell on their clothes and hands, and their teeth are less affected.
Romanian consumers who are using glo indicated improvements in their physical condition when using glo versus smoking:
- 60% cough less compared to smoking,
- 55% of them say glo use has less negative impact on their physical condition versus smoking,
- 72% say their teeth are less affected versus smoking.
Also, glo consumers indicated social benefits after switching to BAT’s THP:
- 96% of the respondents indicated less smell on clothes and hands,
- 97% indicated less negative impact on the indoor air,
- 89% indicated less unpleasant aftertaste left in the mouth versus smoking,
- 95% indicated less bad breath after switching to glo compared to smoking.
More than half of respondents (53%) report that they had quit smoking completely after taking up THP, and the majority of THP users who have quit smoking completely said that they have done so to improve their physical condition:
- 66% because they wanted to live a healthier life;
- 56% because they wanted to reduce the impact on their body.
Consumers want satisfying reduced-risk products, IRES study highlights. Most consumers who have given up smoking completely after switching to THPs state that they did so due to their reduced risk potential (71%) and because they consider these products satisfying (65%).
The outcomes of this consumer research show that consumers are willing to seek out alternatives to smoking and legislative restrictions might revert the encouraging results obtained up to the present. Thus:
- 49% of glo users would use these products less or quit them completely in case of a flavour ban in consumables, and
- 28% of glo users would go back to smoking cigarettes.
