Expur, a subsidiary of the French group Avril, has invested EUR 15.6 mln in a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, which will produce renewable energy using the shells from sunflower seeds, according to company representatives quoted by Ziarul Financiar.
"We are glad to be the first company in Romania to invest in such innovative and environmentally-friendly solutions, using sunflower shells as biomass and capitalizing on all the resources of the raw materials we work with," said Nikolay Belchev, CEO of Expur.
The rinds of sunflower seeds transformed into energy will provide 90% of the current and the entire steam requirement for the oil and biodiesel factories in Slobozia.
