Italian group Enel invests EUR 100 mln in electricity distribution networks in Romania

The three electricity distribution subsidiaries owned by Italian group Enel in Romania will invest RON 483 million (EUR 100 mln) this year in modernizing the electricity network in Bucharest and in the ten counties where they operate.

This year’s investments come on top of the RON 2.025 bln (EUR 420 mln) already invested in the 2015-2019 period.

“Every year, the E-Distribution companies invest important funds in the modernization of electricity networks in Romania. Our priority remains digitization, to pave the way for the energy transition. Our modernization programs have a direct impact on the network's ability to provide energy to new consumers and improve the management of unplanned outages," said Gino Celentano, general manager of E-Distributie Banat, E-Distributie Dobrogea and E-Distributie Muntenia.

E-Distributie Muntenia, which also covers the capital Bucharest, has the biggest investment budget this year – RON 229 mln (EUR 47.7 mln), followed by E-Distributie Banat – RON 127 mln (EUR 26.4 mln), and E-Distributie Dobrogea – RON 117 mln (EUR 24.3 mln).

The electricity networks operated by the three E-Distribution companies include 286 substations and 23,575 power transformers, which distribute around 15 TWh of electricity each year, through over 128,000 kilometers of high, medium and low voltage power lines.

Enel has about 3,100 employees in Romania and serves over 3 million clients in the country.
