Accor opens new ibis Styles hotel in Romania’s Galati

French group Accor, one of the biggest hotel operators in the world, has opened its first hotel in Galati, a city of 300,000 inhabitants in Eastern Romania.

The hotel, that operates under the ibis Styles brand, is the former Dunarea hotel in Galati, owned by Romanian investor Traian Sandu.

This is the group’s second hotel opening in Romania this year and will be followed by five more inaugurations. One of the next hotels to be launched is Mercure Galati Centrum, also owned by Traian Sandu.

“The speed of Accor’s development in Romania was not influenced by the unprecedented challenges that we have experienced in hospitality in the past few months. The proof is given by the opening of 7 new hotels this year will total 802 keys,” said Christophe Chamboncel, VP Operations Management Romania & South-Eastern Europe.

For the next two to three years, Accor has secured a strong pipeline in Romania, with further 10 properties, totaling more than 1,344 keys. The new openings include Swissotel Bucharest, as the flagship five-star hotel development in the capital, and other new brands to enter the Romanian market.

The newly-opened ibis Styles hotel in Galati has 80 rooms and is located close to the city’s Old Town and next to the Galati Port, the biggest port on the Danube River and the second largest in Romania. The renovation plan included the modernization of rooms, restaurants and public areas up to the standards of the ibis Styles brand as well as investments in the latest IT & digital services.
