Bulgaria, Romania to build another bridge over Danube

11 September 2017

Bulgaria and Romania will build another bridge over the Danube, near Ruse, the fifth-largest city in Bulgaria, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said yesterday evening, reports Novinite.

The two countries’ governments will discuss this topic during the Romanian-Bulgarian intergovernmental meeting in October. The bridge can be built without government financial contributions and the construction can be fully funded without the introduction of fees for drivers crossing it, according to Borisov.

The new bridge will have a positive economic impact on the city of Ruse. "The city has begun a major renovation of the two biggest schools and three kindergartens," Borisov said.

The bridge over the Danube between Giurgiu and Ruse was built in 1954. In 2013, Romania and Bulgaria inaugurated the Calafat-Vidin bridge, the second one between the two countries.
