Romanian low-cost operator Blue Air, the second largest airline in Romania after Wizz Air, will expand in the region by opening a subsidiary in Brno, in the South Moravia region of the Czech Republic.

The company will operate seven flights from the Czech city, with the first flights being launched at the end of March, reports local Profit.ro.

The South Moravian Regional Council will have a 35% stake in the new firm called Blue Air Moravia, whereas Blue Air will own the rest of the shares.

Setting up the company is part of the Czech region’s development plan. The Council will contribute with EUR 2.3 million to the new company in 2018. Regional authorities estimate that the partnership with Blue Air will help increase the number of passengers at Brno Airport by about 130,000 people per year.

Blue Air will allocate to the Brno base a Boeing 737-500 aircraft with 126 seats. The Romanian company will operate 7 flights from Brno next year, with departure to Milan, Brussels, Barcelona, Lvov, Rome, Dubrovnik and Split, the last two being seasonal flights.
