Four Romanian beaches in the seaside resorts of Mamaia and Navodari received the quality Blue Flag award this year, one more than in 2017. By comparison, 13 beaches in neighboring Bulgaria got this status in 2018.
The Blue Flag Programme for beaches and marinas is run by the international Foundation for Environmental Education NGO. It challenges local authorities and beach operators to achieve high standards in the four categories of: water quality, environmental management, environmental education and safety.
The four beaches in Romania awarded the Blue Flag in 2018 are Musset Lounge & Beach and Vega Vintage Beach in Mamaia, and Phoenicia Beach and Marina Regina Beach in Navodari, local Profit.ro reported. Last year, the Romanian beaches that received this quality award were Vega Vintage Beach, Phoenicia Beach and Marina Regina Beach.
Globally, there are 4,500 Blue Flag beaches and marinas. Most of these beaches are in Spain (590), Greece (519) and Turkey (459).
