Romanian Tax Agency’s IT director detained for EUR 1 mln bribe
Romanian anti-corruption prosecutors detained yesterday Anda Ancuta Macovei, the director of the IT department within the Tax Agency (ANAF), for allegedly taking a EUR 1 million bribe.
Macovei is being prosecuted for deeds committed when she was the director of the information technology department within the National Customs Authority.
In 2010, Macovei allegedly asked for 25% of several contracts’ value in exchange for helping two companies win public contracts with the National Customs Authority, according to the prosecutors. In total, Macovei asked for about EUR 1 million, as well as other valuable goods, for herself and another person between 2010 and 2014, the prosecutors said.
The Prahova Court will decide today whether Macovei will remain under arrest for 30 days.
