83-year-old Romanian woman injured in Stockholm truck attack

10 April 2017

Romanian woman Papusa Ciuraru, of Roma ethnicity, who has been living and begging on the streets of Stockholm, was among those injured during the truck attack on Friday, according to the Swedish media.

When the stolen truck was driven into the store in the heart of the Swedish capital, Papusa, 83, was at her usual place, begging, reports Expressen.se.

“People around me were screaming. I thought there was a war going on. I tried to get up and run, but I had a large stone over my leg,” she said.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that a Romanian citizen was injured in the attack. She was admitted to a local hospital, being in a stable condition.

Four people died and 15 were injured during the Friday attack in Stockholm. The dead included two Swedish citizens, one Brit, and one Belgian. According to BBC the British man killed in the attack was Chris Bevington, 41, who worked as a director with music streaming service Spotify.

The main suspect of the attack is a 39-year-old man from Uzbekistan, who had been facing deportation. The man had apparently shown sympathies to extremist groups, including ISIS.

On Thursday last week, Andreea Cristea, the Romanian woman who fell into the Thames during the London terror attack on March 22, died at the hospital where she was admitted after the incident.
