2016 summer fun: Super concerts and music festivals in Romania

Romania and its capital Bucharest will host many big concerts and music festivals this summer, turning the hot days into fun days. Maroon 5, Muse, and Rihanna are just some of the famous artists who will go on stage in Bucharest this summer while many other international artists will entertain the crowds at the music festivals to be organized in Romania.

Super concerts in Bucharest:

  • Maroon 5 will have its first concert in Romania on June 5. The event will take place in Bucharest’s Constitutiei Square, with tickets costing between RON 195 (EUR 43) and RON 573 (EUR 127). Find online tickets here
  • Superstar rock group The Hollywood Vampires, with Alice Cooper, famous actor Johnny Depp, and Joe Perry (Aerosmith), will perform in Romania the next day. They will go on stage at Romexpo, in Bucharest, on June 6. Tickets cost between RON 170 (EUR 38) and RON 460 (EUR 101) and can be purchased online here
  • Famous violinist Andrei Rieu will return to Romania this year. He will have two concerts in Constitutiei Square in Bucharest, on June 11 and June 12. Tickets online here
  • Queen + Adam Lambert, which represents a collaboration between the active members of the well-known British band Queen and American vocalist Adam Lambert, will perform in Bucharest’s Constitutiei Square on June 21. Tickets are on sale online here and cost between RON 141 (EUR 31) and RON 597 (EUR 132).
  • The Ultimate Thriller – The Michael Jackson Tribute – LIVE show will start its world tour from Bucharest’s Constitutiei Square on July 7. Tickets online here
  • American heavy metal band Megadeth will also play in Romania this summer. The band will perform at Arenele Romane in Bucharest on July 13, and tickets are available online here
  • Well-known German rock band Scorpions will return to Romania this summer, for a concert to take place at Romexpo on July 16. Tickets cost between RON 173 (EUR 38) and RON 270 (EUR 60), book them online here
  • Rock the City Festival will bring English bands Muse and Iron Maiden to Bucharest’s Constitutiei Square this summer. Muse will perform in the first day of the festival, on July 29, while the Iron Maiden concert is scheduled for July 30. A two-day subscription for the festival costs between RON 270 (EUR 60) and RON 465 (EUR 103). Buy tickets online here
  • Rihanna will also have her first concert in Romania this summer. Her gig is scheduled to take place in Bucharest’s Constitutiei Square on August 14. Tickets cost between RON 173 and RON 648 and are available online here
  • American electro house musician Steve Aoki will play in Bucharest’s Constitutiei Square on August 15. Two days later, Australian singer SIA will also go on stage in the same location, alongside Fallulah, Selah Sue, and Oh Land. Find tickets for these concerts here

Summer music festivals in Romania:

  • Airfield

Airfield Festival 2016 will take place at Magura Airfield near Sibiu, between June 30 and July 3. Its lineup includes a wide range of music genres, from funk and techno to hip-hop and rock, with artists such as Joris Voorn, Jamie Woon and Neeka already being announced by the organizers.   • Electric Castle

This festival has grown up to be one of the largest such events in Romania. This year’s edition of the event will take place between July 14 and July 17 at the Banffy Castle in Bontida village, near Cluj-Napoca, and its lineup includes big names such as Skrillex, Sigur Ros, Bring Me to Horizon, Bastille, Paul Kalkbrener, and Slow Magic.   • Untold

Some of the world’s top DJs will come to Untold music festival in Cluj-Napoca, Romania this summer. Between August 4 and August 7, music fans will have the chance to see more than 150 international artists, including Afrojack, Armin Van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell, Martin Garrix, and Tiesto.   • Summer Well

The Chemical Brothers, Hurts, Years & Years, The Neighborhood and Borns are just some of the artists who will go on stage at this year’s edition of Summer Well. The festival will take place at the Stirbey Domain in Buftea, near Bucharest, on August 13-14. General access tickets cost RON 315 (some EUR 70), plus 6% taxes, and can be purchased here.   • Spellground Festival

Spellground Festival will take place between August 12 and August 14, next to the Capidava Citadel, on the Danube shore, at a distance of 160 km of Bucharest or 65 kilometers of Constanta on the Sun Motorway. Its lineup also includes big names such as The Kooks, Royksopp, Wolf + Lamb, Noir, and Fritz Kalkbrener. A three-day pass costs EUR 66. Find more information here
