RO ruling party maintains leading position in electoral poll
The score of Romania’s ruling party, the national Liberal Party (PNL), in the monthly polls carried by IMAS for Europa FM radio station, increased for the second month in a row to 33.4% in July, G4media.ro reported.

The score of Romania’s ruling party, the national Liberal Party (PNL), in the monthly polls carried by IMAS for Europa FM radio station, increased for the second month in a row to 33.4% in July, G4media.ro reported.
The party lost ground from 40.7% voting intentions in February, before the coronavirus pandemic outbreak, to 32.6% in May to recover marginally over the next two months.
PNL’s main rival, the Social Democratic Party (PSD), shows no particular trend and remains some 10pp below PNL despite the significant 1.5pp advance in July versus June.
The Save Romania Union (USR) and PLUS alliance was evaluated for the first time as a single entity, at 17.2% in July.
Pro Romania, the party of former prime minister Victor Ponta, returns in the single-digit area (9.7%) after it increased above 11% in the previous two polls.
Another important player is the ethnic Hungarians’ party (5.6%), which remains around the scores it typically performs.
