European Gymnastics Championships: Four Romanian athletes qualify for women’s finals

Four Romanian gymnasts, namely Catalina Ponor, Larisa Iordache, Ioana Crisan, and Olivia Cimpian qualified for the finals of the European Gymnastics Championships currently taking place at the Polyvalent Hall in Cluj-Napoca. Initially, Catalina Ponor managed to qualify both for the women’s floor and beam finals but, shortly after the qualifications ended, her score for the floor exercise was revised and she went down to 10th place. Ponor will thus compete only in the beam final on Sunday. Meanwhile, Larisa Iordache managed to get the best score in the beam qualifications, namely 14.566 and will also compete in the beam final this Sunday. Two other Romanian gymnasts, namely Olivia Cimpian and Ioana Crisan, have qualified for the all-around finals on Thursday. Cimpian got a score of 50.481, ranking 26th, while Crisan won 50.199 points, ranking 29th. Even though they are not in the top 24 qualifying positions for the final, the two will perform in the last act as only two athletes from each country are allowed to compete, reports local Digi24. In the men’s finals, Romanian Marian Dragulescu qualified for the floor and vault finals, which will also be organized this weekend. The European Gymnastics Championships are taking place at the Polyvalent Hall in Cluj-Napoca, central Romania, and will end on April 23. Romania hopes to end the Championships with 2 or 3 medals.
