The coach who launched Cristiano Ronaldo may run for mayor in Romania

Romanian football coach Ladislau Boloni may run for mayor in Targu Mures, an important city in central Romania. The three Hungarian parties in Transylvania are willing to support his candidacy at the 2020 local elections, according to Hungarian media. Ladislau Boloni was an important player for Romania’s national football team and for FC Steaua Bucharest, under whose colors he won the European Champions Cup in 1984. He played over 100 matches for Romania’s national team and scored 25 goals. He started his coaching career in 1992 at Nancy in France. He also managed Romania’s national team in 2000-2001 and then moved to Sporting Lisbon, where he launched the career of Cristiano Ronaldo and eon the Portuguese League in 2002. He also won the Belgian league with Standard Liege in 2009. He currently manages Belgian club Royal Antwerp FC. Boloni, 65, said he was interested in running for mayor of Targu Mures and the three political parties representing the Hungarian community in Transylvania are willing to support him. Boloni was born in Targu Mures and played over 400 matches in 14 years for the local team.
