Romanian deputy PM: Environment tax won’t be replaced with a new tax

06 March 2017

Romania’s environment minister Daniel Constantin, who is also a deputy PM in the cabinet led by Sorin Grindeanu, said on Friday that the environment tax will not be replaced with a different tax, and that the legislation will be “reformulated” in the Environment Ministry’s working group to introduce a certificate for air quality under the form of vignettes that will have a “reduced cost”.

The euro vignettes will be released when cars go to the periodic control, and the costs will be minimal, namely only the printing costs, but then the local authorities will be left to take the decisions, reports local News.ro.

He explained that the Government will create the legal framework that will allow local authorities to decide if they introduce a certain tax for these cars or not.

The removal of the environmental tax on second-hand cars at the beginning of February resulted in an increase in the number of used vehicles that are up for sale.
