Romanian Banca Transilvania’s leasing firm gets EUR 20 mln loan from EBRD

BT Leasing, a leasing company owned by the second largest local lender Banca Transilvania, will get a EUR 20 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to increase access to financing for small and medium-sized businesses in Romania, especially those located outside big cities.

BT Leasing's focus is on SMEs. The company wants to become the leader among leasing companies in Romania, focusing in particular on regional firms.

“In the first four months of this year, we’ve funded goods of EUR 41 million, up 27% over the same period last year,” said Ionut Morar, BT Leasing general director.

The EBRD and BT Leasing have completed four financing agreements worth EUR 45 million so far. EBRD is one of the main shareholders of Banca Transilvania, with an 8.6% stake according to the latest available reports.
