Mastercard donates EUR 1 mln for first pediatric oncology hospital in Romania
Mastercard Romania announced that it would donate EUR 1 million this year for the construction and equipping of the first pediatric oncology hospital in Romania.
The project, coordinated by local NGO Daruieste Viata Association, has already received a EUR 10 million donation from OMV Petrom. Mastercard thus becomes the second biggest donor in this project.
The financial services company also announced a long-term partnership with the Daruieste Viata Association and will support the NGO to raise more donations from Mastercard card owners. Thus, for every donation made by Mastercard users this year, the company will contribute with EUR 2 to the project. PRO TV stars Andreea Esca, Andra and Catalin Maruta, and Smiley also joined Mastercard’s campaign as ambassadors.
The Oncology and Pediatric Radiotherapy Hospital is currently being built next to the Marie Curie Hospital in Bucharest. Patients will have access to all the pediatric specialties required for the holistic treatment of children with cancer, and the hospital will be able to treat more than 300 children with cancer each year, as well as to perform over 9,600 oncological and non-oncological surgeries.
