Gărâna Jazz Festival announces lineup of 2022 edition

17 May 2022

This year’s edition of Gărâna Jazz Festival, set to take place between July 7 and July 10, will see performances from Charles Lloyd & The Marvels feat. Bill Frisell, Soft Machine, and Frank Gambale: All Star Band, among others.

The organizers have scheduled for each festival day five concerts on the stage in Poiana Lupului and another two at the Catholic Church in Văliug.

Saxophone player Charles Lloyd will return to the festival alongside The Marvels and jazz guitarist Bill Frisell on the festival’s first day. The two musicians have performed before at the event with their own projects: Charles Lloyd in 2008 and 2013, and Bill Frisell in 2013 and 2017.

Their collaboration under the headline The Marvels has so far resulted in numerous concerts and three recordings: I long to see you (2016, Blue Note), Vanished Garden (2018, Blue Note, with Lucinda Williams), and Tone Poem (2021, Blue Note). The other members of The Marvels are Greg Leisz (slide guitar), Reuben Rogers (contrabass) and Kendrick Scott (drums).

Another artist to perform at the festival is Frank Gambale, who will be present at the event for the first time. The Grammy-winning guitarist has gathered under the All Star Band title some of his closest collaborators, including Hadrien Feraud, the bassist who performed with Vigil, led by Chick Corea, drummer Gergő Borlai, and young pianist Jerry Léonide, the winner of the public’s choice award at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

On July 10, British avant/jazz-rock group Soft Machine will take the stage. The group is currently on a tour celebrating their 55 years of activity. The same day, the public can attend the concert delivered by ADHD, the Icelandic band formed in 2007.

The full lineup of the event is available here.

The passes and day tickets for the festivals are already on sale at Bilete.ro, Inmedio & RELAY, Germanos, Vodafone stores and at the Romanian Post offices.
