Romania's Govt. analyzes possibility to reopen indoor restaurants

Romania’s prime minister Ludovic Orban said on Monday, August 24, that he asked the technical and scientific support group that helps the Government manage the COVID-19 pandemic to analyze the possibility of reopening indoor restaurants.

He added he would have a meeting with HORECA sector representatives this week and then decide the following steps.

“We will have to make a decision this week because the summer season is coming to an end, the period when people can sit on the terraces. For example, in the mountains it is difficult to have breakfast on the terrace. We will have to evaluate and make some decisions," Orban said, according to Hotnews.ro.

The PM’s announcement comes after a protest organized by HORECA employees last week. Investors in this sector have been complaining that the Government’s decision to keep indoor restaurants closed could push many units to close. They also criticized the Government for lack of objective arguments for maintaining this restriction.
