Romania’s Chamber of Commerce wants to licence, for a fee, all managers in the country

Romania’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR) argues that the draft law providing for mandatory contributions from all local companies to its budget is inspired by similar regulations in Austria, Germany, France, Italy, and Turkey.

As regards the yearly registry of companies - for which the companies are supposed to pay a fee - CCIR comes up with the success story of a similar publication in Hungary. It is thus surprising that the Foreign Investors’ Council (FIC) criticised the draft law, CCIR concludes, Bursa.ro reported.

In fact, it was not only FIC - but the quasi-unanimity of business organisations that have already criticised the draft law. Consequently, the political cost of passing the controversial draft law became too high and - such as the bill entitling CCIR to get for free a 46-ha plot of land in Bucharest CBD - it will probably be put on ice for more favourable circumstances.

CCIR expressed its disappointment with FIC’s lack of awareness on this topic, particularly given that the organisation includes as members companies coming from countries where the Chambers of Commerce are reputable and influential institutions.

In the meantime, more surfaced about the draft law currently under debate in Parliament: CCIR would be supposed to issue some mandatory licenses to the managers of all the companies in Romania after they undergo (for a fee) a course organised by the Chamber of Commerce. It is like a driving license, CCIR argued.
