Major Moroccan phosphate fertilizer producer enters RO market

21 July 2020

Abu Dhabi-based Al Dahra Agriculture, which operates the biggest farm in Romania and OCP group (formerly Office Chérifien des Phosphates) of Morocco, will set up a joint venture to distribute chemical fertilizers on the Romanian market.

The investors already got the green light from the competition body for setting up this joint venture.

OCP is a world leader on the phosphate concentrates market thanks to its access to more than 70% of the world's phosphate rock reserves.

The group specializes in activities related to the exploitation, refining, processing, production, and marketing of phosphate-based raw materials (phosphate rock and phosphoric acid) and phosphate-derived products (phosphate-based fertilizers and calcium phosphate).

In related news, the US Department of Commerce has launched an investigation into possible illegal subsidies granted to phosphate fertilizer producers in Morocco.

The USA is among the main export markets for the Moroccan fertilizer industry. OCP is also the world's largest producer of phosphate and phosphoric acid and the second-largest producer of phosphate-based fertilizers in the world.
