State-owned energy carrier Transelectrica inaugurated yesterday the Campia Turzii power station after a refurbishment worth RON 42 million (EUR 9 million).

The consortium of Energobit, Siemens, Retrasib and ELM Cluj carried out the refurbishment, which started in 2014.

The Campia Turzii power station is a major power transit hub between the areas of Cluj, Alba and Mures. It is very important for the electricity supply safety in the northern area of Transylvania, Transelectrica executive general director Corina Popescu said.

Electricity production is concentrated in the southern area of Romania, while consumption is equally high in the southern and northern areas, she explained.

Transelectrica recorded total revenues of RON 2.4 billion (EUR 516.3 million) in the first nine months of this year, up 26.8% year-on-year. The amount of energy transported went up by 3.4% to 40.51 TWh during this period.

Despite the positive revenue evolution, the company’s net profit decreased by more than two thirds (69.6%) in the first nine months of this year to RON 64.7 million (EUR 13.9 million).
