Rompetrol turns into leading fuel supplier in Georgia

The largest company in Georgia's fuel market is Rompetrol, with the share of the three largest companies amounting to 45%, according to agenda.ge quoting data from an annual 2021 report of the Georgian National Competition Agency, Economica.net reported. Detailed market shares for the three players were not provided, though.

Diesel fuel accounted for 45.7% of total imports, while for gasoline, the figure was 54.3%. The largest originating countries were Turkmenistan with 22.1%, Russia with 19.2% and Romania with 18.2%.

The Agency also said the increase in the number of gas stations in Georgia by about 272 units since the beginning of 2015 was mainly due to the entry of new economic agents into the local market and the activation of the small network segment.

Georgia's subsidiary of Rompetrol Group (KMG International) operated a network of 85 gas stations and 2 fuel depots in the eastern Black Sea country at the end of 2020. The company also carries out wholesale activities through the Batumi Port warehouse (28,500 cubic meters), as well as through the Tbilisi warehouse.

At the end of September 2021, the gas station chain of the KMG International Group (Rompetrol) comprised 1,179 points of sale, including its own network of stations, partner stations or mobile stations.

The Rompetrol gas station network operates in Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria and Georgia.
