Romanian gambling group Superbet took over a majority stake of 60% in online peer Lucky7.

"It's a perfect match between Superbet and Lucky7. Lucky 7 is a young but financially strong company (EUR 17 million turnover in Q2), with a solid experience in digital marketing. Superbet group is the best multichannel sports betting operator in the Central and Eastern European region," said Olof Orn, co-founder and CEO of Lucky7, quoted by Economica.net.

Romania remains the most important market for Superbet, co-founded in 2008 by Serbian entrepreneur Sacha Dragic.

In May last year, the company attracted a strategic investment of EUR 175 mln from Blackstone Tactical Opportunities (BTO), part of American Blackstone Group, one of the largest investment managers in the world. Blackstone holds a minority stake in Superbet.

In the past five years, the company has grown almost five times to a turnover of RON 2.8 bln (EUR 585 mln) in 2019.

It entered the top ten entrepreneurial companies in Romania, with a valuation of about EUR 700 mln.
