The Olympic Team of Romania, which will participate in the European Games in Poland, was officially presented at the Polyvalent Hall of the Olympic Complex "Sydney 2000" in Izvorani. According to the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR), it is the largest delegation of Team Romania ever present at an edition of the European Games.

Romania sends 150 athletes, 74 female, and 76 male, at the European Games in Poland, scheduled for June 21-July 2. At the first edition of the competition, Baku 2015, Team Romania had 147 athletes in the delegation, and 123 at Minsk 2019.

In this edition, the Romanian team will compete in 18 sports out of the 29 included in the multisport program in Krakow Malopolska. The flag bearers at the opening ceremony will be Bianca Ghelber, the European champion in the hammer throw in 2022, and Cătălin Chirilă, the world and European champion in canoeing in 2022.

During the ceremony in Izvorani, Cătălin Chirilă took the oath on behalf of the athletes, while Olimpiu Marin did so on behalf of the coaches. Olympic Committee officials and representatives of the federation were present to encourage the athletes.

"The challenge you will experience at the European Games Krakow Malopolska 2023 should be an opportunity for you to show that you are prepared and that you will fight for the Team and for everyone who supports you. I know what pressure and surpassing limits mean, what it demands, but I also know that you are strong and capable of stepping onto the podium,” said COSR president Mihai Covaliu, quoted by News.ro.

The Romanian delegation also includes, in addition to the 150 athletes and 39 coaches, 15 members of the medical team, 9 team officials, and 1 technical specialist in mountain biking.

The Team Romania delegation is led by Dragoş Tătaru as Chief of Mission.
