Romanian athletes compete in Special Olympics World Games in Berlin
Thirty-one Romanian athletes with or without intellectual disabilities will participate in the Special Olympics World Games hosted by Berlin, Germany, between June 17-25. They will compete in nine events, namely unified table tennis, unified tennis, unified basketball, bocce, swimming, roller skating, gymnastics, judo, and athletics.
In total, roughly 7,000 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners from approximately 190 countries will compete in 26 sports.
The Romanian delegation will also include coaches for each sport, a doctor, and the staff.
The Romanian athletes are from Deva, Cluj, Satu-Mare, Bacau, Timisoara, Sfantu Gheorghe, Targoviste, Bucharest, Constanta, and Tirgu Jiu, according to Special Olympics Romania.
The Special Olympics World Games are the world's largest inclusive sports event. Germany will host the competition for the first time this year.
