Small Romanian town introduces innovative waste collection system

05 September 2017

The local authorities in Mizil, a town in Romania’s Prahova county, plan to implement an innovative system for household waste collection.

Each trash bin will have a chip installed on it that will allow billing the waste collection service based on the amount of trash each household throws away, reports Mediafax.

The waste will be weighed and each family will pay for its disposal based on this. The tax for throwing away one kilogram of waste will be RON 0.3 (EUR 0.06).

The local authorities are thus trying to stimulate the residents to select their waste. Each household will also have a separate bin for recyclable waste, which will not be taxed.
