Romania’s daily coronavirus cases, deaths hit new high

Romania added 1,378 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day number since the start of the pandemic.

The previous high was recorded on July 30, when 1,356 cases were reported.

Separate from the new cases, 605 patients who were retested still had the Covid-19 infection.

The total number of coronavirus cases reached 59,273 on Friday, August 8, the authorities announced in the daily report released at 13:00.

Most of the cases recorded in the past 24 hours were reported in Bucharest (199), and in Prahova (110), Argeș (96), Dâmbovița (86), and Brașov (79) counties.

Of the total cases, 29,289 patients recovered, while 5,897 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis.

Furthermore, 50 coronavirus patients died in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day number since the start of the pandemic. The death toll in the country now reached 2,616.

Among those who passed away in the last 24 hours, four were aged 40 to 49, four were aged 50 to 59, 11 were aged 60 to 69, 17 were aged 70 to 79, and 14 were older than 80. All of them had previous medical conditions.

The number of patients admitted to intensive care units reached 446, down from 458 the day before. In total, 7,801 coronavirus patients are admitted to hospitals in the country.

So far, 1,343,315 tests were carried out, 23,946 in the last 24 hours. Of these, 9,670 were performed on request.

Furthermore, 6,076 people who tested positive for the Covid-19 infection are isolating at home, while 5,031 are under institutionalized isolation. Meanwhile, 20,210 people are under quarantine at home, while 170 are under institutionalized quarantine.
