Romania expected to keep monetary policy rate at 6.5%
Analysts expect the National Bank of Romania (BNR) to keep its key interest rate unchanged at 6.5% at its monetary policy meeting on October 8 and for at least the next six months, until May 2027.

The central bank may nevertheless provide some insight into its exchange-rate policy after the leu lost around 2% since July amid a more flexible managed-floating exchange-rate regime and a decline in foreign-exchange reserves.
Comments by central bank spokesmen following the sharp depreciation episode in early October suggested a change in the BNR’s reaction function, with greater weight being given to interest-rate stability than to exchange-rate stability, an Erste Group note on the monetary policy decision said.
