Two groups of migrants caught at Romanian borders in one day

The Romanian Border Police caught two groups of migrants who were trying to enter Romania illegally on Saturday, October 1.

The first group, made of four Lebanese citizens and one Algerian, was caught near Teremia Mare commune in Timis county, not far from the border with Serbia. The incident occurred at around 02:20.

The five men were aged between 20 and 35. They told the police that they were planning to get to a state in Western Europe.

A few hours later, at around 10:30, the Border Police saw a group of 17 people who were trying to enter Romania from Bulgaria. The investigations showed that all of them were Syrian citizens. They also said that they were planning to get to Western Europe.

The number of immigrants who try to pass through Romania to get to Western European state has increased in recent months. Besides using the route via Serbia, some of them also try to cross the Danube River from Bulgaria by boat. Two migrants died when their boat capsized in the river.
