Romania’s George Enescu contest: Chinese and Italian win the composition section

Chinese artist Tian Tian and Italian Caterina di Cecca are the winners of the composition section within Romania’s George Enescu International Competition, the event’s organizers have announced.

Tian Tian was selected the winner of the Symphonic Music category, for his composition Concerto for Orchestra, while Caterina di Cecca was named the winner of the Chamber Music category, for Isole per 7 strumentisti.

A total of 34 young composers signed up for the Enescu Competition 2016. A jury made of Zygmunt Krauze, Tim Benjamin, Dan Dediu, Adrian Iorgulescu, Peter Ruzicka, Hubert Stuppner, and Cornel Taranu selected the winners.

This year’s edition of George Enescu Competition started on September 3 and will end on September 25. A total of 174 young artists participate in this year’s edition of the event, and only 12 of them are from Romania. The prizes are worth a total of EUR 115,000.

The young artists could also win the opportunity to perform on the Enescu Festival’s stage, as well as special prizes and opportunities for international promotion.

Romania’s Government has allocated a budget of RON 3.3 million (EUR 741,000) for this year’s edition of the event.
