Over 160 foreign artists join Romania's George Enescu contest

The jury of the George Enescu International Competition has selected 174 young artists to participate in this year’s edition of the event. Only 12 of them are from Romania, and the rest come from countries such as Germany, South Korea, Italy, Spain, France, Croatia, Russia, Latvia, Argentina, China, Thailand, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Taiwan.

A total of 317 young artists from 48 countries registered for the 2016 edition of the George Enescu Competition, the number being almost 40% higher than the one recorded at the 2014 edition. The jury, made of top musicians and professors, selected 174 of them to compete this year.

The lists of selected participants are available online, divided into three sections – violin, cello, and piano. The projects submitted for the composition section were sent to the jury, and the winner will be announced on September 3, the opening day of the 2016 George Enescu Competition.

The George Enescu International Competition will take place between September 3 and September 25 at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest. Famous musicians, jury members and former winners of the competition will also join the selected participants for more than 19 performances and orchestra concerts.

Tickets cost between RON 20 and RON 50 while subscriptions cost RON 300 and RON 400. They can be purchased online here.
