Cirque du Soleil brings 2.5 tons of equipment for Bucharest shows

22 February 2017

The Bucharest shows of the Canadian theater company Cirque du Soleil entail an impressive logistic effort, the organizers of the event announced.

The company will bring to Bucharest for its six May representations equipment weighing almost 2.5 tons. This includes the decors, the 540 sqm stage, and the backstage training area. The backstage also includes a dedicated physiotherapy room, catering, wardrobe and offices areas. The equipment will arrive in Bucharest loaded in 30 trucks, and the setting up is estimated to last one week, according to Agerpres.

The wardrobe for the show, titled Varekai, is made up of over 600 costumes, shoes, wigs, hats and accessories. Some 33,000 labor hours went into making the original costumes. A weekly 250 cleaning hours are needed to keep them fresh during the tour. The costumes were tailor made in the company’s own studio in Montreal. The studio has over 300 full time employees, who specialize in shoe making, textile design, lace, wigs and hats. Workers make plaster casts for every acrobat in the company’s team to work as precisely as possible.

A total of 50 acrobats and musicians from 19 countries will perform this May in Bucharest. The six performances will take place at Romexpo from May 3 to May 7.
